We recently had an opportunity to clean a nice mansard roof. The home owner contacted us stating they needed their roof cleaned. They had moss, algae, lichen, and black streak build up on their roof. These black streaks that are common on roofs can be cleaned. They're known as Gloeocapsa Magma. Gloeocapsa magma is a type of blue-green algae that commonly forms dark black streaks on roofs. Not only does it make shingles look dirty and aged, but it also traps moisture and heat, which can shorten the lifespan of your roof if left untreated.
